Ouro Preto

A view from above of the quaint city of Ouro Preto. A city with a long history, mainly linked to the mining industry. The city is also called the city of 100 water falls. On any trip around town you will see several of them. The city has many museums celebrating their long rich history.

Ouro Preto is Portugese for “Black Gold” and although founded at the end of the 1600s it became a center for gold mining by the 1700s and remains a community which relies on mining as a secondary industry following the tourism industry. This is a popular spot for people who are interested in the early Colonial and historic Brazillian culture and architecture.

Paraty

This is the sleepy town of Paraty. It wasn’t always this way, once upon a time it was a stopping point on the way to theparaty mining areas of Minas Gerais. Only 125 miles from Rio it has been inhabited since 1560. Come and see the rich history. Also famed for eco tourism , beaches and scuba.

Paraty is located on the Bay of Ilha Grande and is the southern most city of the Rio De Janiero state. This is a city where a visitor can experience a taste of almost every aspect of Brazil to some small degree. It is a maintained colonial city with paradise beaches and nearby tropical forests. Olinda in Pernambuco province founded in 1535. Originally colonized by Portuguese then taken over by the Dutch. One can see the Baroque and Dutch influence on the architectural styles. The city is now a center for the arts, and big pre carnival parties.

Olinda is one of the most significant historic destinations in Brazil as it was also once home to various indigeonous tribes such as the Caetés and Tupinambá. Anyone with an interest in Brazillian and South American colonial history as well as South American native studies would find this to be a travel hot spot.
