Capybara and Butterflies
Brazil is the home of some of the most unusual animals on this planet. People on other continents could hardly believe these creatures or their diversity. The fellow on the left is a capybara. A very large rodent that can sometimes reach 120#'s or larger. It is a very good swimmer and eats veggies. The Vatican declared this animal to be non meat, so in some contries it is a favorite during lent. In Venezuela they say, "No capy for easter would be like no turkey for thanksgiving." The meat is rather expensive, low in fat, white like pork, and has a slightly fishy taste. The skin makes a very fine leather and is said a wallet made from this material is pick pocket proof! |
